NetBook Reflection 2012

I am a yr 6 student and I just completed my first year with a netbook. This is my 2012 Reflection.

Experiencing how to work on the netbook was a fun journey. I searched up new things on google and learning even more than I expected! Googling for pictures was really fun! commenting,connecting and sharing with your friends work was clever and easy. Organizing your work is no problem! Everything I need is on the netbook! Discovering the world was wonderful. Now I can type better than ever! This enjoyable tool has prepared me for the future.

There were a lot of negatives that occurred while we were using the netbooks. We could go on games that were easy to access and people didn’t finish their work. There was also disconnection almost frequently and there were somethings wrong with some peoples netbooks like the video camera and settings.

Creating things are very interesting especially when I find out something new create on. Its fun to find new skills,programs and short cuts!

Taekwondo!!!

We trained to kick a Taekwondo kicking board. We were training for this for seven weeks! It felt so cool kicking the board!

It is good to save energy perswasive

The world is changing into a different place. Is it going to end? The world? Is it us or mother nature?

Do you go to school or work in your private transport appliance? Do you like to watch T.V all day? Do you like to play on your computer all day? Do you leave your main power points on when not used? These questions could go on FOREVER. `In your everyday life. Do you wonder about what do and the effect it makes? You may say “YES”.  But do you actually SAVE energy? Now a days people just can’t save energy. Why? they are TOO LAZY to do it. We have become so reliable on the technology we use.  This may be the terrifying truth for almost everyone. But people around the world don’t notice how much energy they are wasting.

As you may already know. There is huge problems around the world made by YOU. Don’t you feel just at least a little guilty for what you have done? Already people around the world have no idea what they are doing! YOU are producing global warming, climate change and pollution! You should feel more guilty because these problems can END THE WORLD.

Global warming: Global warming is when there is too much CO2 in the air. Did you know that there is so much CO2 in the air that there is climate change? This is  when the weather gets hotter and in antarctica the enormous blocks of ice are melting rapidly. This affects thousands of creatures including YOU. Penguins are becoming homeless, polar bears are traveling further distances to find food, animals starving to death. Even in the islands! When ice melts the water level increases and are taking over the islands! There are less land there to live on. There are countless problems and more to come just because of you.

As a famous quote  ‘little things can do big things.’ YES this is true. We  all are doing little things like driving a car instead of riding a bike. What can we do to  encourage people to ride bikes more often and turn off lights when not used and so on. Can you please help us, the world. They are in your hands. What will you do?

My personal pet robot 'Akita'

This is my pet robot Akita. She is brown, tan and a little orange. I made her as tall as me so i can ride on her. She can also shrink so I can take her anywhere! She is powered by solar energy and wind energy. When she runs a small wind turbine pops out of her head between her ears. She has a gaming pad on her neck. She has lots of other cool gadgets!

Data Handling

Today we played a data handling game. We had to throw the dice 30 times and record every number we get into a tally chart. After this was done we put the same infomation into ainto a bar chart.

The main theme of this pattern is how we affect the world. The red colour on top represents you and me, the green represents the environment, the blue represents the sea and what lies within and lastly the orange which represents land creatures. These are all in the world. But the stairs on bottom, represent the way to peace and care on earth but some of us are going down and some are going up, which means that some people just can’t follow peace and care for the environment and some people do. The environment,land creatures and marine creatures inside the stairs are all trapped because we trapped the world. What will happen if the stairs get weaker and weaker then it falls. Our Narrative Practice

I was living the dream. I had a good job, big house and a loving family... As i said ‘I ‘was’ living the dream’. Yes I was. Until my boss fired me. So, I couldn’t pay the bill. And I sold the house. I sacrificed my self because we only had three tickets for the people to go to Germany to live with my wifes parents. Well, that was two weeks ago. They only left me with twenty five dollars. Right now I am walking a tightrope, in a circus. I know it's weird but its my new job now. This is my first time in front of a crowd. My head started to hurt from the concentration as I kept reminding myself of the deal. The deal was that if I don’t mess up, I will keep the job. It was my only hope. I practiced a lot for this. I just wish i was still lucky...THUMP!

“W-where am I?” all i could see was white blur. The my eyes came together. I was in the hospital. Oh no. I’ll be in debt now. How will I survive now that my jobs gone. “Sir, please lie down” someone said in a polite girly voice. Thats all I heard. Since my life is unlucky now ... Its gone totally BIZARRE! By the way now I’m in some old asian guys house. He payed for my debt and took me. I am really thankfull. But I guess thats quite lucky. Well, right now the old man is chanting ancient words and massaging my back. Maybe he’s ancient too! Just to say, it feels really good. As I was just about to doze off ... When two small kids around six, seven years old bursted into the room looking like two annoying brats thirsty to annoy someone. I quickly shut my eyes to tell them that I was taken. I guess, that didn't work.

I felt small creepy hands chopping and scrunching my back like its playdough! Well I’m NOT! The ancient guy was trying to tell the kids off. “AHHH!” ,I couldn’t help it! They were like squirmy spiders,sluggish snakes, horrible hippos... I raced out of the room! To be honest, I actually limped out of the room just noticing that my right leg has been injured. I was so slow... So humiliated. I tried harder. The two children were just gazing at me in shock. They quickly bowed down and said something. I’m sure it was an apology. I guess I am a family member now.

Its been around two years since that accident...Wow... Time goes fast. I can speak Japanese now. Its quite cool. I have a new job. My goal is to save enough money to travel to Germany. My lifetime goal...I hope my goal will come true someday.

NZ Shake Out Day

Today was New Zealand's National Shake Out Day. At 9:26 am there was an earth quake drill. I was at my desk, so I dropped,covered and held to stay safe. One thing we did well at T.P.S was getting under our desk sensibly. One thing I want to work on next time is trying to listen to the bell because it was quiet. Our meeting place is the hall. Remember, in the event of an earthquake... Drop,Cover,Hold!

My Observation Report

This term we have been learning about plants and my group is doing an experiment about plant needs.’Will a plant survive better in the sun or without the sun?’ This was the main question we had to answer.

On the 10th of August,I gathered two plastic cups,two broccoli plants,soil, and a light proof box.First I poured some soil inside both cups then added the broccoli plants.I set one plant under the light proof box in a dark area and the other plant in the sun.

After two days the plant that was under the sun (Daisy) had an injury on her leaf.It was hanging on the edge of death. On the other hand Dandelion (the plant under the box) had some very small light tan patches.

The next day, I noticed that Dandelion had bright tan around the edges.It was like there was a tan disease going around.But Daisy has been getting worse. She had two leaves that are wilting. I was immediately Stunned.

Finally Day three.I was being bothered by the results from Daisy.So I checked up on Dandelion first.One of Dandelions leaves started to get dry. I knew that it will wilt soon.

In the end both plants sadly died.

I have discovered the answer to the case on Day two.Daisy didn’t have the light she needed from the lamp that she had accidently been under.

I have finally realized why the plants have been wilting, because we didn’t give the plants enough water which is one of their needs.

My Dream Garden

The main theme of this garden is ‘whanau’.Thats why theres a heart shaped pond in the heart of the garden.It obviously represents love and its a great view from the tree house in the pohutukawa tree where children can play.Under the tree is a bench which can spin around and you can relax on it under the shade of the tree and theres a tap there too.Children can also plant their own plants behind the vege garden on the left.There are tools at the end of every garden bench so you can plant more or take out plants.There is also a medicine garden at the bottom of the pond.Near the medicine garden is a bench where you can use the medicine plants.You can prepare the medicine in the pot next to the bench.The flowers near the pond is for the view and show.And lastly there is a compost mount behind the veges on the right for recycling and we put it behind the garden because it woudn’t fit with the other plants.

My Compost Narrative

The squishy sound of the scraps dig deep into the mountain.Eliza scampered through the tunnels looking around searching for the most luscious scraps.The tunnel seemed endless.She noticed some chattering.There were tiger worms having a chat about how they reached there. Eliza stopped and said, “Hi,do you know where the most delicious scraps are?” The thickest worm replied straight away, “Just around the corner...mmmm...I can sense it. I’ll come too.” He said as he stuffed himself with a piece of banana skin.

There was an awkward silence as they searched through the tunnel.”Ah, are we there yet?”Eliza said quietly trying to break the silence.”Nearly...there.” Eliza noticed wrinkles on the worm and thought that the worm wasn’t just made out of fat it was just OLD ...eating a lot ....Eliza became confused. Wondering and moving forward .She became even more confused than ever.”Stop!”Eliza nearly fell over hearing such a loud scream.”We’re here...’.The old but fat worm shrieked.”By the way don’t wonder while moving forward you don’t know where you’re going to end up in this maze.”.He turned his head facing the mushy wall and started drilling.Eliza sat down and started to wait.She fiddled with her tail.Still waiting.”-oh-!” The fat worm was already half way through the new tunnel! Eliza sprinted after him.

Huffing into her furry woodmice chest,she lost him.All Eliza could hear was crunching,munching and the sound of the most luscious scraps being eaten.Eliza gave up.She was finding her way out feeling like she was scampering in circles. Or...maybe she was.Stressing herself out, Eliza gave up again.Lost.Alone.Nowhere.Eliza curled up into a furry ball keeping warm while she has a sleep.Tears trickled down her fur as she slept.

Night began to fall.Eliza woke up forgetting what had happened  the day before.”Muuum!”
Eliza shouted effortlessly as she stood up.”Hmm? Where am i?!”Eliza felt sad deep inside just remembering the tragic night before.”I can’t believe i did this, swearing i would come back with food ... “Eliza said sadly as she was imagining what could’ve happened to her family.Eliza set another quest.

She scurried to every corner of the compost searching for gold.Nights past so quickly.The journey seemed endless...Alas! Luscious food!Eliza sniffed the air,following the scent.”Mmmm,I can almost taste it”.Eliza closed her eyes still following the smell while imagining what it would be,what will it taste like?Mmmm.Eliza just remembered what the old worm said. She couldn’t remember every single word. “Don’t close your eyes while walking,you never know where you will end up.Maybe in manure or even on a badger.” “I think thats it”.Still looking up.”Ahhh!MPH!”.She had a small fall. And ended up something brown...very brown.”Eww! I can’t believe myself!”.Eliza swam up a popped her head out.She looked around.There was a wide  land (covered in darkness of course).”I,i made it.I made it out!Woohoo!!”Eliza danced on the manure.”SHAME SUCCORS!”.

Then Eliza examined the pile of compost.”Alright!”She said and she found her treasure.”Yum food”.Eliza scurried home with food pile balancing on her back.Finally when Eliza reached home she dumped the food on the ground.”Muum!Daad!Sis!”.No One answered.Eliza searched every room only to find them empty.Tears trickled down Eliza’s cheeks as she checked every room one by one.Eliza found herself in the living room again.Again,alone. “....family....”.Eliza cried and cried nonstop.Time past as Eliza accepted her life alone searching through the compost every now and then.Finally Eliza decided to make a garden.She softened soil with a twig.Then Eliza felt something unusual.Eliza dug it out.Her eyes grew wide with heartfelt terror.Lying in the soil were three mammals.Three most loved ones.Eliza’s family lied there staring at the sky.Their bodies are now bones.Eliza recognized their scents as she gave moments of silence.Hanging her head Eliza shedded tears.

Day Three Observation

Day 3

Daisy’s two leaves are completely DEAD now! And one of her other leaves is starting to get dry.I’m confused that Dandelion has survived!Or maybe Daisy has some kind of disease.I should take her to a biologist.....On the other hand Dandelion is growing well but one of her leaves is starting to get dry on the edge.Maybe both will die soon?!

The plant on top is Daisy and the plant on the bottom is Dandelion :)

Day Two Observation

Day 2

Dandelion is starting is starting to get bright around the edges.But i think that she will survive more better than Daisy.Because Daisy's two leaves are wilting A LOT.But she had only two more that are in good condition,so i think that Daisy will die.She was not in the sun this time she was actually in the lamp light.

The one plant top is Daisy and the plant on bottom is Dandelion.

Day One Observation

So we waited for two days and when we checked up on them. Dandelion (the plant that was in the dark) had no difference it was just that one leaf broke and there were some very small light tan patches.It still looked quite healthy.But i think that if the plant was under the dark for too long it will die and run out of energy.Daisy (the other plant) was having the nice warm sun for two days looks perfectly fine when we checked her its just that one of her leafs are hanging.I think that if we take good care of Daisy, she will be perfectly fine all the way.

Spoonful Of Sugar

It was the holidays and I was so bored.I urged for something exiting or something never done before.Then I had an idea.I stood there staring at the cupboard.My fingers were twiching like whiskers sensing something wonderful.So I opened the cuboard to see the jar.Which was filled with glorious,sugar.I felt a breeze of evilness.Since I haven’t tasted lollies, I should at least taste sugar by itself.So my eyes brightened with excitement.

I swished my head around like a meerkat looking for any signs of danger.The coast was clear.I reached for the jar and tip toed as high as possible.Like a baby reaching for his bottle.When I finally took hold of the jar,I quickly scrambled under the worst,most exposed hiding place ever.The Table.”Oh no! What have I done?  Why did I choose this place?”I cried to myself.”Aww I can’t be stuffed to get out !I’ll just stay here for a short while.”

So I started munching away.I couldn’t believe I was doing this!Then I took the biggest spoonful ever!My body felt more confident than it ever had.I widened my mouth to eat the most glorious spoonful ever.An evil grin slowly formed on my face, but at that moment it all disappeared because...Dad walked past.

Well, he didn’t exactly walk past.He hesitated then looked at the table.”Eep” as quick as a flash I was at the side of the table leaning against the wall.I covered the sugar with my arms I clenched my hands tighter and tighter. As dad bent lower and lower.I could see a glimpes of my dad’s face.So I shut my eyes firmly. Waiting for something to happen. Hoping for something better to happen.

I heard my dad’s voice saying my name.He hammered my hopes down.I give up.I opened my eyes to see a face glaring at me. “Here...” I said as I gave him the sugar jar . He looked at me.  Then looked the jar. He sighed. So did I, but my one was saying“It’s over.” Then I said ”I wanted to have a record of how long I could eat sugar.It was so delicious!”I didn’t want anything to happen to me.

That’s when I remembered the worst,most fearful punishment.The belt.I didn’t know what it was but my big brother got it.I knew I surrendered, but will dad still punish me?! I had to think fast. So I cried. Trying to make him feel sorry for me. I did that for a while. Then I actually cried for real! My dad fell for the real crying. He held my hand and took me out from under the table. He hugged me and I felt a bit better. I’ve learned my lesson as I looked under the table to see the spoonful of sugar.

Movie Magic Evaluation

I think that good actors is the most important element to movie making because they make the movie look more realistic and if the movie is an influencing movie it will be effective because the movie will look real and then the audience might think that may happen to them to and then they may be persuaded.
I put flash camera and good editing second because. a flash camera will have good quality image and sound so the movie will be more realistic.  I put good editing because not so good editing will ruin the movie but good editing will make the movie more than it is.And it's like writing, we edit our writing and our writing will be more than it is.

I think the least important element is a Tripod because. a tripod is good for stillness and it will avoid shaking but there are also other things around that could also be used as a tripod.
Other important elements that aren’t included here are clear storyboard.  Storyboards are important because you can clearly see what angles you will use and what it might look like on camera.

My biggest lightbulb moment while learning about movie magic was the angles like close up, extreme long shot, medium close up etc.  Since then, everytime i watch a programme or a movie on T.V i always notice how the angles change and what kind of angles they use and i noticed that if i had a long shot people mostly slowly zoom in,and no one really notices but it really helps.

Room 8 have been studying Movie Magic. Part of making movies, is speaking clearly. We put this into practice by planning, crafting, practicing and presenting speeches. The topics we chose, were topics that would influence the thinking of others. We hope you enjoy!

Speech Reflection

How did you  about presenting your speech to the class?
I felt Confident at first but when i went up i was still confident but when i started my speech i don’t know why but i just talked too fast.

What was the hardest part about preparing a speech?
The hardest part was structuring the speech and persuasive idea’s.

What did you enjoy most about speeches?
I really liked how they persuaded me and describing visions from both sides.

How could you improve your speech making next time?
I could practiced more in front of more people so i can get used to it.
